Coach's Corner

Meet one of our Adaptive Golf Coachs

Meet Jay Schrimpl

I started with FGA last October and attended the Adaptive Golf Workshop in November of last fall.  I have been playing golf for 50 years and plan to keep playing until they plant me!  My coaching experience includes 13 years of grade school basketball and track with my son and daughter's teams at St. Irene School in Warrenville, as well as coaching little league over the summers.  My work experience covered 40 years in technology sales.

Why he is an FGA Coach

Working with the special needs kids at all of the various high schools these past 6 months has been a hoot!  It gives me great joy to see the smiles on the faces of the kids when they accomplish hitting a bullseye, putting, or hitting the SNAG target chipping!  The goal of bringing golf to individuals who otherwise would not have the chance to participate in this great game is a very worthwhile cause and I am happy to promote it.

Great Experiences

A great coaching moment Jay had was at a SNAG Clinic at Wheaton Warrenville South.  He had been working with Anna, who uses a wheelchair, for a good portion of the session.  At first she was struggling with how to use the club and hit the ball.  Anna became more engaged as the clinic went on. The best moment was when Anna stood up out of her wheelchair to putt.

"Getting Anna to stand was very satisfying!  It was neat that Anna was willing to stand with assistance from Carrie to putt!"

We love to see the big smiles that the game of golf  brings to the faces of our clinic participants!
